Bearcats Set to Compete in Golden Eagle Tournament

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will compete in the Golden Eagle Tournament presented by Holiday Inn of Cookeville on Friday and Saturday in Cookeville, Tenn.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will compete in the Golden Eagle Tournament presented by Holiday Inn of Cookeville on Friday and Saturday in Cookeville, Tenn.
 
The Bearcats open the tournament with two matches on Friday. They will play Kennesaw State at 2 p.m. ET, followed by ETSU at 6 p.m. ET. UC will close out the weekend against host Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
 
Cincinnati's matches will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+ and all matches can be followed at StatBroadcast.
 
// SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati is 6-1 all-time against Tennessee Tech, with the first meeting coming in 1981. The two teams last met in 2019, resulting in a four-set win for UC at the State Farm Bearcats Invitational.
 
Cincinnati owns a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series against ETSU. The Bearcats earned a five-set win over the Buccaneers at the Duke Invitational in 2018. Jordan Thompson had 31 kills at a .300 clip.
 
UC and Kennesaw State will be meeting for the first time in program history.
 
// LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati went 2-1 at the Tribute to #10 Tournament (Aug. 25-27). The Bearcats earned sweeps over Alabama State and Indiana State but fell to Xavier in four sets.
 
Outside hitter Jadyn Bauss led the Bearcats with 4.90 kills per set at a .303 clip. Middle blocker Abby Walker averaged 3.50 kills at a .426 hitting percentage to go along with 1.20 blocks per set.
 
// RECORD CROWDS FILL FIFTH THIRD ARENA
Cincinnati broke its volleyball attendance record on Saturday night with 3,358 fans packed inside Fifth Third Arena. It shattered the previous record of 2,057 set on Nov. 2, 2018.
 
In addition, Friday night's attendance of 1,513 was the fifth-most in program history.

// ACES UP OUR SLEEVES
The Bearcats totaled 18 service aces against Xavier on Aug. 26, breaking the program and Big 12 records for service aces in a four-set match. The 18 service aces surpassed the program and Big 12 records of 17, set in 2004 and 2005, respectively. The mark currently leads the country for a four-set match.
 
Shaye Eggleston had a career-high seven aces while Bauss tied her career high with five. Eggleston tied the individual program record for aces in a four-set match. She is also the national leader in the category.
 
The Bearcats rank 13th in the nation in service aces per set (2.70) while Eggleston sits fourth as an individual (1.14).
 
// IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Transfers Carly Skrabak, Jadyn Bauss and Katelyn Lefler all made their Bearcat debuts over the weekend. Bauss led the Bearcats in kills in all three matches, highlighted by a 20-kill performance against Indiana State. She sits seventh in the nation in points per set (6.10).
 
Skrabak averaged 4.40 digs per set as the team's starting libero. She's currently 16th among active career leaders with 1,531 career digs.
 
Lefler, a junior setter, recorded the first two double-doubles of her Bearcat career. She posted 47 assists and 12 digs against Xavier and 39 assists and 11 digs against Indiana State. She ranks fourth nationally with 12.10 assists per set.
