Zeta Washington Captures Big 12 Rookie of the Week Honors

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati volleyball freshman middle blocker Zeta Washington was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
 
The Ponte Vedra, Fla., native averaged 5.00 kills and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .492 in a 3-0 weekend for the Bearcats. She finished the week leading Conference players in both points per set (5.86) and kills per set (5.00) while ranking third in hitting percentage (.492). She is the first Bearcat to procure a weekly Big 12 volleyball honor.

Washington dropped a 25-piece in her collegiate debut against Kennesaw State on Sept. 1. She hit .524 with 25 kills and only three attacking errors on 42 swings. She added three blocks and a service ace in the four-set win. The 25 kills are the 8th-most nationally for a four-set match this season, and the most by a freshman.
 
She added 10 kills at a .412 clip and four blocks (two solo) in a sweep of Tennessee Tech on Sept. 2. She was named to the Golden Eagle Invite All-Tournament Team for her performances.
