CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team's match against Central Michigan ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday inside Gettler Stadium.
The Bearcats moved to 1-2-1 on the year. Central Michigan leaves Cincinnati with a record of 0-0-3.
After trailing 1-0 at the half despite multiple good looks, the Bearcats came back onto the pitch with purpose after the break as sophomore midfielder/forward Megan Smith sent a laser to the back of the net in the 46' for the equalizer. The goal marked her sixth career goal and her second of the season.
The Springfield, Ohio native has now scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. She notched the game-winning goal against Bowling Green on Aug. 24.
The Bearcats ended the match with season highs in both shots (10) and shots on goal (8) but ran into the hot hands of Central Michigan goalkeeper Allison LaPoint, who finished the match with seven saves.
The Chippewas stuck first in the 22' as CMU's Jenna Little took advantage of a Bearcat turnover and netted past senior goalkeeper Anna Rexford.
Cincinnati's best chance to break the tie came with 57 seconds left in the match, as junior forward Paige Miller put one in the back of the net but was ruled offsides.
Graduate student defenders Ashley Barron and Kendall Battle each reached career milestones. After missing the last game, Battle was back in the starting lineup and recorded her 50th career start in her 55th match as a Bearcat.
Barron is now only one minute from having the 10th most career minutes played in program history. After playing the full 90 in tonight's match, she now has tallied 5,768 minutes played in her career.
