CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team's match against No. 22-ranked Pittsburgh came down to the final minutes as the Bearcats suffered a 2-1 loss on Sunday inside Gettler Stadium.

Cincinnati moves to 1-4-2 on the year while Pittsburgh improves to 7-1-0.

Trailing 1-0 late in the match, sophomore midfielder/forward Megan Smith equalized the match in the 87th minute. She stepped into a ball from 25 yards out, blasting the goal into the top right corner.

It marked Smith's third goal of the season and the seventh of her career. The Springfield, Ohio native currently leads the team in goals and is the only Bearcat to have scored multiple goals this season.

Pittsburgh's Samiah Phiri answered Smith's equalizing goal in the 88th minute by scoring her second goal of the game, giving the Panthers the eventual victory.

Both teams played stout defense in the first half and would go into the break deadlocked nil-nil.

Phiri broke the scoreless tie in the 63rd minute as she slipped one past Cincinnati senior goalkeeper Anna Rexford.

Rexford tied her career-high seven saves on 16 shots faced. She recorded the career-high mark earlier this season against Bowling Green.

Graduate student defender Ashley Barron joined elite UC company as she became the seventh Bearcat in program history to record over 6,000 career minutes. She played the full 90 for the fifth straight game and has now played 6,038 minutes in her career, the sixth most in program history.
