The University of Cincinnati volleyball team forced a fifth set before ultimately falling to Butler on Friday at the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team forced a fifth set before ultimately falling to Butler on Friday at the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
 
Cincinnati moves to 6-3 on the season with one non-conference match remaining.
 
Graduate student Jadyn Bauss notched a match-high 21 kills, her third 20-plus kill performance this season. She added 11 digs for her fourth double-double. Senior Elissa Alcantara registered 13 kills at a .360 clip in three sets of action.
 
Freshman Vivian Campbell took over the setting duties in the third set and finished with 27 assists and six digs. Libero Carly Skrabak recorded 21 digs on defense.
 
Butler outhit Cincinnati, .235 to .151, and held a 14-10 advantage in blocks.  
 
//  HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Butler owned a 14-10 advantage to force a Bearcat timeout. Cincinnati pulled within two, 19-17, but would not get any closer as Butler won the opening set, 25-19. The Bulldogs hit .364 compared to UC's clip of -.026.

SET 2 | The Bulldogs jumped out a 13-9 lead in the second set. Butler scored three straight to extend its advantage to six (19-13). Cincinnati responded with a 4-1 scoring run to force a Butler timeout (21-18). The Bearcats pulled within two late (23-21), but the Bulldogs scored the final two points to win the set (25-21). 

SET 3 | The third set saw 25 ties and 14 lead changes. Trailing 21-19 late, the Bearcats scored three straight to jump back in front (22-21). The Bulldogs responded with a 3-0 spurt for Butler set point, 25-24. Cincinnati fought off four Butler set points to win the frame in extra points, 32-30. Alcantara had seven of her 13 kills in the frame. 
 
SET 4 | A 4-0 run by the Bearcats tied up the set at 10 apiece. Cincinnati later used a 5-1 scoring run to lead 21-18. Despite a late push by Butler, the Bearcats held on to win the stanza, 25-21.
 
SET 5 | Cincinnati found themselves down 8-6 as the two teams switched sides. The Bearcats responded with a 4-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Carly Glendinning (10-8). The Bulldogs ultimately held on the win the set, 16-14, and match, 3-2.
