CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team earned wins over Kennesaw State and ETSU on Friday at the Golden Eagle Tournament in Cookeville, Tenn.
Cincinnati defeated both Kennesaw State and ETSU in four sets to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Friday's slate was highlighted by the collegiate debut of freshman middle blocker Zeta Washington. She recorded 25 kills at a .524 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks and an ace against Kennesaw State.
Setter Katelyn Lefler (50 assists/15 digs) and outsider hitter Jadyn Bauss (11 kills/16 digs) turned in double-doubles against Kennesaw State. Libero Carly Skrabak was an assist shy of a double-double with 21 digs and nine assists.
Middle blocker Abby Walker totaled 24 kills on the day, highlighted by a 15-kill, .519-clip performance against the Owls.
Bauss led the Bearcats against ETSU with 17 kills, seven digs, four aces and four blocks. Shaye Eggleston and Ligia Williams each added nine kills in the win.

SET 1 | Cincinnati trailed by as many as five before tying up the set at 22 apiece. The comeback attempt fell short as the Owls scored the final three points of the frame, 25-22. Washington (6k) and Bauss (5k) paced the Bearcats' offense, hitting .625 apiece.
SET 2 | The Bearcats owned an early 7-2 advantage in the second set. After the Owls tied up the set at 13 apiece, Cincinnati subbed in Nina Horning on the outside. The Bearcats immediately rattled off three straight points. They finished the set on a 6-1 run to win the frame, 25-16. UC hit .500 with 17 kills and only one attacking error on 32 swings. Horning had four kills on seven attempts in the set.
SET 3 | A pair of kills from Walker and Bauss gave UC a 13-9 advantage in the third stanza. The Bearcats continued to pour on, outscoring their opponent 10-3 down the stretch. Washington had four kills and a solo block during the run.
SET 4 | The fourth and final set saw 13 ties and three lead changes. With the score tied at 21 apiece, Carly Glendinning and Washington each recorded two kills to clinch the win, 25-21. Washington had six kills on nine swings (.556) in the stanza.

SET 1 | The Bearcats cruised to the first set win, 25-13, behind a .625 hitting percentage. Cincinnati finished the set on an 8-1 scoring run, capped off by a service ace from Julie Wittekind.
SET 2 | Back-to-back kills from Walker propelled the Bearcats on a 7-1 run (15-9). The Buccaneers responded with eight straight points to lead 20-18. The Bearcats fought back to tie up the set on four occasions, but ETSU held on for the win, 25-23.
SET 3 | Cincinnati pieced together back-to-back points to lead 15-12 at the media timeout. Out of the break, the Bearcats maintained their advantage to win the set, 25-20. Williams had five kills on eight swings (.625).
SET 4 | UC jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the fourth frame. ETSU pulled within one at 9-8 but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set. Cincinnati cruised to the win, 25-18. Bauss had five kills and two aces in the stanza.
