CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Friday to compete in the 37th Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
 
The meet begins at 11 a.m. ET with the Merrill Fischbein Men's Gold Competition (8K), followed by the Jack Johnson Women's Gold Competition (6K) starting at 11:45 am. The Roy Griak Invitational is hosted by Minnesota and is held on the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course. More information about the meet including live results can be found here. 
 
Both the men's and women's races will consist of 20 NCAA Division I schools from around the country.
 
On the men's side, 13 teams hold a regional ranking, including Cincinnati who is ranked 10th in the Great Lakes Region. The men's race will feature two programs nationally ranked inside the top 30 in the latest USTFCCCA coaches poll: No. 9 Portland and No. 29 Cal Baptist. 
 
The women's race will feature 14 schools that hold a regional ranking, including the Bearcats who are ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region. The race will also included four programs nationally ranked inside the top 30 in the latest USTFCCCA coaches poll: No. 19 New Mexico, No. 22 Cal Baptist, No. 24 Utah and No. 29 Colorado State.

The Bearcats competed in their first meet of the 2023 season, the RedHawk Rumble on Sept. 1. Graduate student Tyler Wirth won the men's 6k with a personal-best time of 18:01.51. The Hawley, Pa., native held a blistering mile pace of 4:50 to achieve the feat. This marks Wirth's first individual career cross country race win.
 
The men's team placed all five scorers inside the top-10 for a total of 22 points to win the meet. The first-place team finish marks the best in the program's history at the Redhawk Rumble.
 
Sophomore Claire Curtsinger led the women's team to a second-place finish with 49 points. Curtsinger placed seventh overall with a time of 17:59.01 in the women's 5K. This marks the first time in her career she has been the Bearcats' top finisher at a meet.
 
// WIRTH NAMED BIG 12 MEN'S RUNER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Wirth was named the Big 12 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for his performance at the RedHawk Rumble. Wirth is the first Bearcat to earn the new conference's honor as Cincinnati is in its inaugural season in the Big 12. This also marks the second time in his career he has earned a conference athlete of the week award.
