LUBBOCK, Texas— The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by No. 14 Texas Tech on Sunday inside John Walker Soccer Complex.
Cincinnati moved to 2-6-4 (1-2-1) on the year, while Texas Tech improved to 11-0-2 (5-0-0).
The match was deadlocked 0-0 through the first 30 minutes before Texas Tech's Kaitlyn Giametta netted the first goal of the game to give the Red Raiders the lead in the 32nd minute. She lobbed one over the outstretched arms of Cincinnati goalkeeper Anna Rexford from deep inside the box.
Cincinnati headed to the locker room trailing 1-0 but came out after halftime with more of an offensive focus. The team generated three shots and two corner kicks in the first five minutes of the second half but could not find the back of the net.
Texas Tech extended its lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute as Jillian Martinez notched the second goal of the game. Cincinnati had not allowed more than one goal in the team's previous four conference matches.
The Bearcats' best chance of the game came in the 60th minute when defender Ashley Barron headed the ball just wide off a corner kick from Megan Smith.
Texas Tech would add one more goal off the foot of Sam Courtwright in the 64th minute to reach the match's final score.
Rexford finished the day with three saves. She has now tallied 45 saves this season and 178 in her career. The Wilmore, Ky., native is now only eight saves away from the ninth-most in program history.
True freshman Emma Gioffre started her 10th match of the season. She is the first Bearcat true freshman to start double-digit matches in a season since Barron started 18 in 2019.
Barron recorded her 74th career start in her 75th career cap. She has started 70 straight matches dating back to 2019 and is now only one start away from the 10th-most career starts in program history.
