HOUSTON -- The No. 9-seeded Cincinnati men's golf team made efficient work against No. 6 TCU in Wednesday's finale of Big 12 Match Play, winning 4-1 to claim seventh overall.
Both of UC's wins this week, including Kansas State on Monday afternoon, came against 2023 NCAA Tournament participants.
William McDonald was tied through the first 11 holes before winning four in a row to gain control. Rylan Wotherspoon's five-hole lead in his round was the highest of the day for the Bearcats.
"I'm really proud of this team and the way they bounced back today against a really good TCU team," head coach Doug Martin said. "Yesterday we let two matches get away from us, and the guys were in a bad place last night. They showed me a lot by coming out with tremendous fight today. This event was a true version of team golf, and I truly believe everyone learned a lot about themselves this week."
McDonald and Ryan Ford finished with a team-high three wins for the event.
Cincinnati will stay on the road for its fall finale this weekend: the Quail Valley Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla. from Sunday-Monday.
