Cincinnati Drops First Match to No. 20 Baylor

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped its first match against No. 20-ranked Baylor on Thursday night in Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped its first match against No. 20-ranked Baylor on Thursday night in Fifth Third Arena.  
 
The Bearcats (9-7, 2-4 Big 12) battled back to win the third set, before falling in four to the Bears.
 
Sophomore Carly Glendinning recorded a season-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Fellow outside Elissa Alcantara turned in nine kills while right side Abby Walker hit .312 with seven kills, eight digs and four blocks.
 
Junior setter Katelyn Lefler added a double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs.
 
Defensively, redshirt sophomore Ligia Williams had a match-high six blocks while graduate student Carly Skrabak registered a match-high 14 digs.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Baylor jumped in front behind a 5-0 scoring run (9-5). The Bears extended their advantage to seven after five straight points (15-8). The Bearcats pulled within five after a Zeta Washington kill (18-13) but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set, 25-17.

SET 2 | A Glendinning kill cut the Bearcats' deficit to one (9-8). The Bears then scored five straight points to push the set out of reach. Cincinnati later fought off five set points, behind five straight kills from Glendinning, but it was too late as Baylor won the set, 25-19. UC hit .370 (15-5-27) but could not handle Baylor's clip of .536 (16-1-28).

SET 3 | With Kayla Hostetler behind the service line, Cincinnati went on a 4-0 scoring run to take the lead (11-10). The run was highlighted by two blocks and Hostetler service ace. Alcantara stepped up with a stretch of four kills as UC led 20-16. Outsides Glendinning and Alcantara combined for nine kills to power Cincinnati to the set win, 25-19.
 
SET 4 | Cincinnati rattled off five straight points to lead 9-5. Baylor responded with a 3-0 run to even the set at 12 apiece. In total, the Bears went on a 7-1 scoring run to take control of the set. Baylor went on to win the frame, 25-21.
