Cincinnati Heads to West Virginia for Two-Match Series

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team hits the road for a two-match series against West Virginia, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday inside WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team hits the road for a two-match series against West Virginia, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday inside WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
 
The Bearcats (9-8, 2-5 Big 12) will also face the Mountaineers (8-12, 1-6 Big 12) at 6 p.m. on Friday.
 
Cincinnati's matches will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+ and can be followed at StatBroadcast.
 
// LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati dropped a pair of home matches to then-No. 20 ranked Baylor. The Bearcats won a set in each of the defeats.
 
In the first matchup, sophomore Carly Glendinning recorded a season-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. She has registered 10-plus digs in four of the last five matches.
 
Redshirt sophomore Ligia Williams averaged 1.38 blocks per set in the two matches while freshman Zeta Washington averaged 2.13 kills and 0.88 blocks per set.

// SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati has won nine straight to lead the all-time series against West Virginia, 12-2.
 
The two teams most recently met on Oct. 23, 2011, resulting in a 3-0 sweep for Cincinnati. West Virginia head coach Reed Sunahara was in his final season with the Bearcats that season. Sunahara had a 289-109 record over 12 seasons at the helm of UC.

// ROAD WARRIORS
Cincinnati is 4-1 in true road matches for its best road start in 20 years. The Bearcats are 2-1 in Big 12 road matches, most recently picking up a five-set win over TCU on Oct. 6 in Fort Worth, Texas. Washington tallied 19 kills at a .359 clip in the victory. TCU is No. 40 in RPI and was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 preseason poll.
 
The Bearcats also earned a four-set win over Kansas State on Sept. 30 in Manhattan, Kan.
 
// MADE IN THE MIDDLE
Cincinnati has received valuable contributions from middle blockers Ligia Williams and Zeta Washington in Big 12 play. Washington is averaging 2.67 kills per set at a .292 clip while Williams is averaging 2.00 kills per set at a .275 clip. Williams (1.17) and Washington (1.06) rank 10th and 12th, respectively, in the Big 12 in blocks per set.
 
In Big 12 matches only, Williams ranks fifth in blocks per set with 1.30. She tied her career-high eight blocks in UC's win at Kansas State. The mark is second in the league for a four-set match in conference play.
 
// DIGGIN' THE DEFENSE
The Bearcats have out-dug their opponents in 12 of 17 matches this season. UC is 8-4 when owning the advantage in digs. Cincinnati has held the advantage in digs in each of its Big 12 victories: K-State (72-65) and TCU (80-70). UC ranks second in the Big 12 and 65th nationally in digs per set (15.42).
 
Cincinnati posted a season-high 91 digs against South Carolina on Sept. 9. It marked the most digs in a single match since October 15, 2021 when the Bearcats had 93 against Tulsa.
 
// STEADY SKRABAK
Graduate student Carly Skrabak is averaging 4.06 digs per set as the team's starting libero - good for fourth in the Big 12. She has led the team in digs in all but two matches this season. She's currently 17th among active career DI leaders with 1,751 career digs. She is 249 digs away from 2,000 in her career.
 
Skrabak has posted 20-plus digs on four occasions. Her season-high of 24 digs came against UCF on Sept. 21. The mark leads the Big 12 for a four-set match in conference play.
