The University of Cincinnati volleyball team bounced back with a five-set victory over West Virginia on Friday night in Morgantown, W.Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team bounced back with a five-set victory over West Virginia on Friday night in Morgantown, W.Va.
 
The Bearcats split their two-match series with the Mountaineers to improve to 10-9 overall, 3-6 in the Big 12.
 
Cincinnati registered a season-high 16 blocks, behind a career-high nine stuffs from redshirt sophomore Ligia Williams.
 
Junior Abby Walker and senior Elissa Alcantara led the offensive attack, finishing with 17 kills apiece. Walker set a new season high in kills while hitting at an efficient .361 clip.
 
Freshman Zeta Washington finished with 11 kills at a .400 hitting percentage to go along with six blocks. With the score tied at 14, she hammered back-to-back kills to seal the five-set win.
 
Junior setter Katelyn Lefler dished out 48 assists to go along with a season-high 18 digs for her 12th double-double. Graduate libero Carly Skrabak posted a match-high 21 digs on defense.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Cincinnati used a 4-1 scoring run to lead 14-11. Walker had a kill and a block during the stretch. WVU responded with three straight points to even the score. Two kills from Alcantara and a block from Williams and Walker put UC back in front, 20-17. The Mountaineers roared back to take the lead at 25-24, but Cincinnati scored the next three points to win the stanza, 27-25.

SET 2 | West Virginia used a 6-1 run to own a six-point advantage (14-9). The Bearcats slowly began to chip away at their deficit. Walker had two kills and a block during a 4-0 spurt. Cincinnati could not pull any closer than two for the remainder of the set, falling 25-21. 

SET 3 | The Bearcats got off to a strong start in the third, taking a seven-point lead at 18-11. WVU pulled within three (19-16) before Cincinnati rattled off six straight points to win the frame, 25-16. The Bearcats posted three blocks during the stretch while, individually, Alcantara had two kills and a block.
 
SET 4 | West Virginia jumped out to a 12-7 advantage. Alcantara and Williams each recorded a kill and combined for a block to put UC back in front, 12-11. The Mountaineers then used a pair of three-point scoring runs to take the lead for the remainder of the set, 25-22.
 
SET 5 | The Bearcats scored five straight points to lead 6-3. The Mountaineers responded with a 6-1 scoring run to lead by two (11-9). Cincinnati fought off two match points to even the set at 14 apiece. Washington called game with back-to-back kills for the 16-14 final score.
