Hawthorne, Gavin Lead Bearcats to Sweep over Owls

GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior Drew Hawthorne and sophomore Grace Gavin led the way as the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program swept Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio.

GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior Drew Hawthorne and sophomore Grace Gavin led the way as the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program swept Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio. 
 
The men's team defeated Kenyon, 183-54, while the women's team won, 178.5-64.5. Cincinnati recorded 25 total event wins.
 
Hawthorne notched first-place wins in the 50-yard (20.62) and 100-yard (45.24) freestyle while senior Hunter Gubeno earned two first-place marks in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.16) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:47.01).
 
Gavin had strong performances in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.86) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.90), earning first-place finishes in both.
 
Freshman Lindi Worrell earned her first Bearcat victory in the 500-yard freestyle, recording time of 5:03.93. She also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.88.
 
The team of Tommy Eaton, Brennan Muramatsu, Drew Harris and Collin Singler found the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 1:25.01.
 
The women took both relays when the 200-yard medley relay team of Gavin, Joleigh Crye, Ella Chown and Kaylee Nagel finished with a time of 1:44.13 and the team of Jessica Davis, Sophie Curtis, Worrell and Sonja Aarsvold recorded a time of 1:34.18 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
For the diving portion, sophomore Lauren Melia earned victories in the 1-meter (267.95) and 3-meter (262.50).
 
On the men's side, sophomore Alex Givens earned the top spot in the 1-meter (302.00) and 3-meter (302.20), while junior Will Claus finished right behind with scores of 301.75 and 295.65.
