Cincinnati Shakes Off Texas Tech

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team shook off Texas Tech in straight sets on Wednesday in Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team shook off Texas Tech in straight sets on Eras Night in Fifth Third Arena. 

The Bearcats captured the sweep to improve to 11-9 overall, 4-6 in the Big 12.

Senior Elissa Alcantara led the Bearcats with 11 kills and no attacking errors on 25 attempts for a .440 hitting percentage. Junior Abby Walker registered 11 kills at a .474 clip to go along with eight digs and five blocks. 

Junior setter Katelyn Lefler notched her fifth consecutive double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs.

Graduate libero Carly Skrabak posted a team-high 18 digs as Cincinnati held a 54-43 advantage in the category. The Bearcats built a castle out of the bricks they threw at Texas Tech, outblocking their opponent eight to three.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 |
Texas Tech used a 4-1 scoring run to lead by four (18-14). With Hostetler behind the service line, Cincinnati went on a 4-0 scoring run to tie the game back up (18-18). A kill from Zeta Washington tied up the set at 23 all. The Bearcats took the first set after Hostetler played her ace, 27-25.

SET 2 | The Bearcats started the second set off strong, forcing TTU to call a timeout at 6-1. Cincinnati never went out of style, holding an 11-point advantage (19-8). Williams got the set-winning kill, her fourth of the frame. The Bearcats hit a set-best .343 to win the second set, 25-14.

SET 3 | Cincinnati scored seven straight points with Molly Harrison behind the service. She delivered two service aces during the run (9-1). A kill from Alcantara forced TTU to call a timeout (15-2). At match point, Walker captured it, remembered it. She posted her 11th kill of the match as Cincinnati won the set, 25-10.
