The University of Cincinnati volleyball team took down TCU in a five-set thriller on Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team took down TCU in a five-set thriller on Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
The Bearcats (9-5, 2-2 Big 12) opened their two-match series against the Horned Frogs (No. 34 in RPI) with a 16-14 fifth-set win. UC improves to 4-0 in road matches this season.
 
Freshman middle blocker Zeta Washington put on a show, totaling a team-high 19 kills at a .359 hitting percentage (19-5-39). She added five digs, four blocks and an ace in the victory.  
 
Junior setter Katelyn Lefler dished out 50 assists to go along with 11 digs and two kills. Sophomore Carly Glendinning recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs. She had 11 kills in the first two sets of action.
 
Five Bearcats finished with double figures in digs, behind a team-high 18 from graduate student Carly Skrabak. The defense continues to be a staple of the team as UC held an 80-70 advantage in digs.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Cincinnati used a 4-0 scoring run to lead at the media timeout (15-13). The Bearcats then rattled off three straight points to force a TCU timeout (18-14). Back-to-back kills by Ligia Williams gave UC a five-point advantage (20-15). Cincinnati fought off a late push by TCU to win the opening set, 25-21. The Bearcats hit .387 with three attackers hitting above .500.

SET 2 | Glendinning scored the Bearcats' first three points of the second set. TCU then used a 4-0 run to force a UC timeout (11-9). Out of the break, UC scored the next three points, including a pair of kills from Glendinning (12-11). The Horned Frogs then outscored the Bearcats 6-2 to force a timeout (17-14). UC pulled within two after a kill from Washington (22-20), but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set, falling 25-21.

SET 3 | The Bearcats struggled offensively in the early going of the third set, trailing 17-11. Out of the timeout, Cincinnati scored three straight points, highlighted by a kill and block from Washington (17-13). With Washington behind the service, the Bearcats rattled off seven straight points to take the lead (22-18). Cincinnati won the third set, 25-22, behind 10 combined kills from Washington and Elissa Alcantara.
 
SET 4 | TCU held the early advantage in the fourth set. They then extended their advantage to six after a 3-0 run (17-11). The Bearcats would not get any closer than five for the remainder of the set, falling 25-17. TCU outhit UC in the frame, .316 to .167.
 
SET 5 | The fifth set saw 13 ties and six lead changes. After a Williams and Alcantara block, UC held an 8-7 lead as the two teams traded sides. Williams and Alcantara teamed up once more for the block to give UC the set win, 16-14.
