CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team rounded out two days of stellar play Saturday at the UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational held at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.
Ball State's Elena Malykh was named the singles champion for event, while there was a three-way tie that featured Cincinnati pairs Elizabeth Pendergast and Gabrielle Guenther and Callie Flanagan and Victoire de Samucewicz for the doubles title.
Overall, the Bearcats paired up to total eight doubles wins, including sweeps over Xavier and Miami (OH), and added 15 more victories in singles play.
Flanagan, sophomore Isabel Pacheco and freshmen Guenther and Sakurako Watanabe each tallied unblemished marks in both doubles and singles play over the event. After dropping her match on Friday, junior Elizabeth Pendergast bounced back to secure two straight-set wins at the top court on the final day of action.
Cincinnati will take part in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships from Oct. 19-23 in Knoxville, Tenn.
