CINCINNATI— University of Cincinnati women's soccer graduate student Kendall Battle was named the university's Big 12 Student-Athlete of the Month for October, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
As Cincinnati's representative, Battle was one of 14 student-athletes, one from each Big 12 university, to garner this month's distinction. This also is the first student-athlete of the month honors the conference has handed out this year.
The St. Louis native is the first Bearcat in program history to receive the award. Cincinnati is in its inaugural season in the Big 12 as the university joined the conference on July 1.
The conference selects student-athletes who not only excel at their sport, but also demonstrate leadership, perseverance and strong commitments to academics and community service.
Battle is in the process of earning her MBA and boasts a cumulative G.P.A. of 4.0. In her final season in a Bearcat uniform, she started in 18 of the team's 19 matches and scored the game-winning goal in Cincinnati's first-ever Big 12 conference tournament victory over Baylor.
