MADISON, Wis.— Graduate student Tyler Wirth and sophomore Claire Curtsinger led the University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country program on Friday at the 2023 NCAA Great Lakes Regionals.
The men, in their 42nd Great Lakes Regional race, finished 12th with 359 points, while the women placed 14th overall with 385 points in their 37th appearance.
Wirth led the UC men like he's done throughout the season, as he was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line for the fourth-straight meet. The three-time All-Conference honoree earned his first career All-Region accolade as he finished 14th with a time of 30:04.3.
Following Wirth for a third consecutive race was freshman Thomas Ashby, who crossed the finish line with a time of 31:07.7 in his first career Regionals race. Ashby finished 61st overall.
Next was graduate student Matt Hoak. The Mason native climbed 25 spots from the 2k to the 6k mark and recorded a personal best time of 31:19.5, placing him 71st overall.
Rounding out the scorers was sophomore Bobby Ganser who also recorded a personal best time of 31:45.7, securing him the 102nd spot and graduate student Ryan Pehlman finished 111th overall with a time of 31:52.7.
Curtsinger was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line in the women's 6k. The Kentucky native had her best race of the season, clocking in at 21:12.2, placing 32nd overall.
Graduate student Maddie Walker completed her final race repping the Bearcat red and black. The three-time AAC All-Conference honoree recorded a time of 21:25.1 and placed 44th overall.
Next to cross the finish line was sophomore Gwen Stare who recorded a time of 21:47.8 earning her 73rd overall.
Wrapping up the women's scorers were sophomore Sarah Madix and freshman Amber Carter. Madix finished with a time of 22:29.8 (117th) and Carter logged a time of 22:31.7 (121st).
