Cincinnati Falls in Five Sets to Oklahoma

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team forced a fifth set, before falling to Oklahoma on Saturday night inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team forced a fifth set, before falling to Oklahoma on Saturday night inside Fifth Third Arena.

The Bearcats (12-14, 5-11 Big 12) split their two-match series versus the Sooners. UC earned a five-set win over OU on Friday night.
 
Junior Abby Walker completed an impressive weekend on the offensive side of the floor with 15 kills at a .333 hitting percentage. She committed just one attacking error in 10 sets of volleyball this weekend. 

On Senior Night, graduate student libero Carly Skrabak posted a match-high 24 digs senior while Elissa Alcantara notched 13 kills. Graduate student Jadyn Bauss was also recognized for her contributions to the Bearcat volleyball program. 
 
Sophomore Carly Glendinning notched a season-high 16 kills while freshman Zeta Washington had 13 kills, five blocks and four digs.
 
// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Oklahoma jumped out a 9-5 advantage. Walker and Washington recorded back-to-back kills to cut UC's deficit to three, 13-10. The Bearcats scored three straight to force an Oklahoma timeout (14-13). The Sooners responded with a 4-1 run to lead by four (20-16). With Walker behind the service line, the Bearcats scored three straight (21-20) but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set, falling 25-20. 
 
SET 2 | Cincinnati used a timeout trailing 7-3 in the second set. The Bearcats went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the stanza, 9-8. The two teams then traded points for the remainder of the set. A kill from Washington tied up the set at 23 all, but the Sooners scored the next two points to win the frame, 25-23. The second set saw nine ties and two lead changes.
 
SET 3 | Oklahoma used a 4-0 run to take an early 9-4 advantage. The Bearcats fought back to pull within one (12-10) and took the lead after a Glendinning kill (15-14). Alcantara had a block and kill to give UC a two-point lead (18-16). Walker then notched back-to-back kills as UC cruised to the set win, 25-20.  
 
SET 4 | The Bearcats got off to a better start in the fourth set, owning a three-point advantage (7-4). Cincinnati went on a 4-0 run to lead by six (16-10) and continued to pour on with a 6-0 stretch (22-12). Glendinning and Washington each had four kills to lead the Bearcats to the fourth set win, 25-13.
 
SET 5 | Oklahoma owned a six-point advantage as the two teams switched sides. The deficit proved too large to overcome as UC dropped the final set, 15-5.

Cincinnati will then conclude the home portion of its schedule when the Bearcats host Kansas at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22. UC wraps up the regular season at Iowa State at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 25.
