ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team downed Kentucky, 65-41, to conclude the 2023 Paradise Jam on Saturday at the Sports and Fitness Center at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The Bearcats (3-3) got off to a fast start and never looked back in a win in which they led by as many as 24 (55-31). It marked Cincinnati's first win over Kentucky since Jan. 2, 2004, which was also the last time the Bearcats defeated an SEC opponent.
Senior Jillian Hayes registered her second double-double of the season, 15th of her career, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. It marked her 50th career game in double figures. She added three assists and two steals in the all-around performance.
Sophomore Destiny Thomas tied her career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds. Freshman Reagan Jackson also finished with 13 points, going 4-for-10 from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range.
The Bearcats shot 38.3 percent from the field (23-60 FG) and 40.0 percent from behind the arc (4-10 3FG). Cincinnati held the advantage in nearly every statistical category. The Bearcats were plus-14 in points off turnovers (14-0), plus-18 in second-chance points (23-5) and plus-24 in points in the paint (28-4).
Eight different Bearcats recorded a point in the victory as UC held a plus-17 advantage in bench points (21-4).

Kentucky reclaimed the lead with 4:09 on the clock (9-8) before Cincinnati rattled off eight straight points to end the quarter (16-9). A'riel Jackson knocked down a three-pointer as time expired.
Cincinnati continued to pour on with an 8-0 run in the second quarter to take its largest lead of the half (28-15). The stretch saw Reagan Jackson drain back-to-back three-pointers. The Bearcats took an 11-point lead at the break behind nine first-half points from Thomas (31-20).
Back-to-back buckets from Thomas and Hayes gave UC a 13-point lead with 5:58 on the clock (41-28). The Bearcats once again used a large scoring run to end the quarter, recording the final 11 points of the third (52-31).
Cincinnati outscored Kentucky 13-10 in the final quarter to cruise to the victory, 65-41.
