CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's volleyball freshman Zeta Washington has been named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Washington, a native of Ponte Vedra, Fla., averaged 3.24 points, 2.75 kills and 0.97 blocks across 91 sets played. She led the Bearcats in hitting percentage (.316) and was second on the team in kills (250) and blocks (88). She is the first Bearcat to procure a yearly Big 12 volleyball honor.
The middle blocker finished a stellar freshman campaign with 13 double-digit kill performances, including 10 in league action. She ranked inside the top-25 in the Big 12 in kills per set (2.75). One of her top offensive performances came in her collegiate debut where she dropped a 25-piece in a four-set win over Kennesaw State (Sept. 1). She hit .524 with 25 kills and only three attacking errors on 42 swings to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors.
Defensively, she recorded five-or-more blocks in eight matches, including a season-high seven blocks twice. She finished 14th in the league in blocks per set (0.97).
Fourteen student-athletes were named to the All-Big 12 First Team while 10 were selected to the Second Team. Six freshmen were chosen to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team. A full list of honorees can be found below.
