Cincinnati Swept by No. 12 BYU

PROVO, Utah – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team was swept by No. 12-ranked BYU on Saturday night in Provo, Utah.

PROVO, Utah – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team was swept by No. 12-ranked BYU on Saturday night in Provo, Utah.  
 
The Bearcats (11-12, 4-9 Big 12) battled tough in the early stages of each set but could not overcome late scoring runs by the Cougars. BYU improves to 12-0 at home, including a mark of 36-3 in sets. 
 
Middle blocker Zeta Washington registered her 10th double-digit kill performance of her freshman season. She hit an efficient .421 with a team-high 11 kills and only three attacking errors on 19 attempts.
 
Junior Abby Walker and redshirt sophomore Ligia Williams combined for 14 kills on offense while graduate student Carly Skrabak and junior Julie Wittekind totaled 11 digs on defense.

BYU's Erin Livingston led all attackers again with 19 kills at a .630 hitting percentage.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Cincinnati and BYU traded points in the early stages of the first set. The Bearcats trailed by just one point after a Walker kill (13-12). The Cougars then scored six straight points to run away with the frame, 25-14. BYU totaled 19 kills at a .533 clip in the stanza. 

SET 2 | Two kills from Washington gave UC a 6-5 advantage. The Bearcats led by two after a kill from Williams (10-8). The Cougars then used a 3-0 spurt to take the lead at 12-11. A kill from Washington pulled UC within one (14-13), but the Bearcats would not get any closer for the remainder of the set, 25-17.

SET 3 | The Bearcats got out to a fast start in the third set, owning a 7-3 advantage. BYU responded with five straight points to take the lead. Cincinnati continued to fight and piece together back-to-back points to even the set at 13 apiece. UC later pulled within two after kills from Walker and Washington (17-15). BYU outscored Cincinnati 8-3 down the stretch to win the frame, 25-18.
