The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team defeated Xavier, 69-47, in the Crosstown Shootout on Sunday in Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team defeated Xavier, 69-47, in the Crosstown Shootout on Sunday in Fifth Third Arena.
 
The Bearcats (5-3) claimed their third straight victory to capture the Kendle Cup, awarded to the winner of the Women's Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout.

Head coach Katrina Merriweather improves to 6-0 in the Crosstown Shootout – four as a player, one as a graduate assistant and now one as head coach.
 
Freshman Reagan Jackson led three Bearcats in double figures, finishing with a game-high 14 points (5-12 FG). It marked her fourth straight game in double figures and third time leading the team in scoring.
 
Senior Malea Williams recorded 13 points (5-11 FG) to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in the all-around performance. Junior Ta'Ziah Jenks added 10 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.   
 
Cincinnati finished 38.3 percent from the floor (23-60 FG) and 21.4 percent from behind the arc (3-14 3FG). The Bearcats forced a season-high 23 turnovers which resulted in 15 points. UC also held a plus-12 advantage in points in the paint (36-24) and plus-11 advantage in rebounds (39-28).

Xavier shot 36.7 percent from the field (18-49 FG) and made six three-pointers (.250).
 
The Bearcats used a 9-0 run over three minutes to lead by five (15-10). Reagan Jackson accounted for seven points during the run. Cincinnati held a three-point advantage at the end of the first quarter (17-14).
 
Cincinnati scored the first 11 points of the second quarter. Six different Bearcats scored during the stretch. The Bearcats held the Musketeers without a point until 1:17 remaining in the first half. Williams made a layup with time expiring as UC owned an 11-point advantage at the break (30-19). Reagan Jackson had 11 points in the first half on 4-of-7 shooting.
 
Williams scored the first seven points of the third quarter (37-26). The Bearcats took a 14-point lead with five minutes remaining in the third (40-26). Xavier pulled within nine (41-32) before Cincinnati ended the quarter on a 6-0 run (47-32).
 
The Bearcats took their largest lead of 24 with 2:13 remaining in the game (66-42). Jenks had eight points in the fourth quarter as Cincinnati cruised to the 69-47 victory.
