Hayes Hits 1,000-Point Milestone, Bearcats Win Fourth Straight

Senior Jillian Hayes surpassed 1,000 career points as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team earned its fourth straight win on Wednesday night, defeating Howard 87-62 inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – Senior Jillian Hayes surpassed 1,000 career points as the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team earned its fourth straight win on Wednesday night, defeating Howard 87-62 inside Fifth Third Arena.
 
The Bearcats (6-3) won their fourth game in a row, tying their longest win streak since the 2020-21 season.

Entering Wednesday's game, Hayes needed 19 points to eclipse 1,000 points for her career. She hit the milestone in the third quarter and became the 30th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points. She led four Bearcats in double figures with her ninth career 20-point game.
 
Senior Malea Williams recorded her first career double-double, tying her career high in points (16) and rebounds (10). The performance was fueled by a career-high four three-pointers (4-6 3FG).
 
Sophomore Braylyn Milton finished with season highs in points (17) and assists (6) while freshman Reagan Jackson chipped in 10 points for her fifth straight game in double figures.
 
The Bearcats shot a blistering 43.8 percent from the field (28-64 FG) and 41.2 percent from behind the arc (7-17 3FG). UC, who currently leads the Big 12 in free throws made per game, went 24-of-27 from the charity stripe (.889).
 
Cincinnati held the Bison scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game. A pair of three-pointers from Williams helped UC take a nine-point lead at the media timeout (15-6). Howard used a 7-0 run to pull within four with 3:14 on the clock (15-11), but Cincinnati responded with its own 7-0 spurt (24-13). Williams had 11 points in the first quarter with three three-pointers.  
 
Howard scored the first seven points of the second quarter (24-20). Williams' fourth trey ended the Bison run with 7:24 on the clock (27-20). The Bearcats then rattled off a 15-2 run to lead by 17 at the break (43-26). Williams had 14 points in the first half on 4-of-4 from behind the arc. 
 
In the third quarter, Hayes surpassed 1,000 career points after Ta'Ziah Jenks found her cutting to the basket (62-44). Hayes had 11 points in the quarter (2-3 FG, 7-8 FT). Cincinnati cruised to its largest margin of victory this season, defeating Howard 87-62.
