CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program will head to the Sunshine State to compete in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Open Water Championships.
"We are excited to be back racing open water this coming weekend," said head coach Mandy Commons-Disalle. "We are hoping for some great swims and I believe our men have a shot at repeating their team championship title."
Commons-Disalle is the current president of the CSCAA Board of Directors.
The meet will take place on Sunday, Dec. 17 at Florida International University in Biscayne Bay, with the men's 5K commencing at 8 a.m. and the women's 5K at 10 a.m.
Meet participation is limited to current NCAA, MAIA and. NJCAA members. Seven Bearcats have earned qualifying times this season and will represent Cincinnati in competition.

1000 Freestyle SCY Women: 10:30.00 Men: 10:00.00

Cincinnati men's team took home first place at last year's Open Water Championships after recording three top-15 finishes.
The women finished 10th overall in team standings.
Sophomore Ido Gal and senior Alex Gonzalez had strong performances that contributed to the team's success.
Gal swam the 5K in 54:45.46, placing third overall while Gonzalez finished right behind in fourth with a time of 55:30.80.
On the women's side, junior Maddy Hensler finished 24th, completing the 5K with a time of 1:00:23.98.
Sophomores Ingrid Fretz and Rylee Waslyn finished in the top 60, recording times of 1:02:58.01 (53rd) and 1:03:04.61 (58th) respectively.

The Bearcats closed out their fall season in a dual against Indiana University, earning four top-ten program times/scores.
The women's team began the day recording the tenth-fastest 200-yard medley relay time in program history (1:41.82). The team consisted of Grace Gavin, Kaylee Nagel, Sonja Aarsvold, and Jessica Davis.
On the men's side, junior Collin Singler notched a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a time of 48.88.
Divers junior Will Claus and sophomore Alex Givens earned NCAA Zone Cuts on the 3-meter scoring 331.7 and 324.83 respectively. Both scores are top-ten program scores.
Both Bearcat teams would go on to ultimately fall to the Hoosiers.
