CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather will serve as an assistant coach for the 2023 USA FIBA Women's AmeriCup Team, announced by USA Basketball on Wednesday.

"I am incredibly honored to be chosen to represent this country as a part of the on-court staff at the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup," Merriweather said. "It is a world-class organization with a winning tradition, and I am thankful for the opportunity to coach some of the top collegiate talent with two great coaches in Kamie Ethridge and Aaron Johnston. I am excited to take what I learn from this experience and bring it back home as we continue to elevate Cincinnati women's basketball."

Washington State head coach Kamie Ethridge was tabbed to lead the team and will be assisted by South Dakota State head coach Aaron Johnston and Merriweather. Merriweather was elevated to her first bench coach assignment after previously serving as a court coach for the 2021 USA Women's U19 National Team Trials.

Ten nations from North, South and Central America, in addition to the Caribbean will comprise the field for the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, which will be held from July 1-9 in Leon, Mexico. The draw to set the five-team groups is scheduled to take place in May.

The team will be comprised of the top collegiate athletes and will be announced following trials next month in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Merriweather, who was named as the 10th head coach in program history on March 25, piloted Memphis to a 22-11 record and a spot in the WNIT Sweet 16 last season, the Tigers' first postseason tournament appearance since 2015-16. A former four-year letter winner for the Bearcats from 1997-01, Merriweather returns to lead her alma mater after she compiled an 151-70 record and five postseason appearances in seven seasons at the helm of Memphis and Wright State.
