CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati Athletics Department is proud to recognize its teams and individual student-athletes for their numerous academic achievements in Fall 2023.
The department posted a 3.42 overall GPA, its 12th-straight semester with a 3.3 or higher. Sixty student-athletes earned TopCat honors (4.0 GPA), 277 more made the Dean's List (62 percent) and 359 (81 percent) earned Honor Roll accolades for posting a 3.0. The latter two represent the highest in school history.
"We had an incredible semester for our student-athletes, as well as our coaches and SASS team," Joe Luckey, Cincinnati's Executive Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support Services, said. "This is especially exciting given the recent news about our 97% NCAA Graduation Rate release. The department GPA is another example of how we want to compete at the highest level on and off the field."
Overall, all 16 programs posted a 3.0-or-higher team GPA, with nine surpassing a 3.5. The top men's and women's GPAs belonged to cross country (3.58) and volleyball (3.74), respectively, with the latter serving as the program's best all-time.
"Our program has excelled at an extremely high-level academically over the last 11 years," head volleyball coach Molly Alvey said. "To have earned highest ranking cumulative team GPA speaks volumes for the character of the athletes that we recruit to our university. The University of Cincinnati offers its students an outstanding education, and President Pinto continues to welcome a new era of innovation with his 'Next Lives Here' vision. I am so proud of our team as leading ambassadors on our campus. They have a true impact on the court in the Big 12 and in the classroom."
