CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team will host the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Friday at the Western Athletic Club. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
The Bearcats (2-0) are coming off a dominant outing last weekend, sweeping both Southern Indiana (7-0) and Chicago State (4-0).
UC notched a total of 14 wins throughout both matches. Freshman Gabrielle Guenther notched two unblemished sets vs Southern Indiana, while freshman Morgan Pyrz and sophomore Rozalia Gruszczynska recorded 6-0, 6-1 wins versus the Screaming Eagles.
SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
This is the first time that the Bearcats will face off against the Leathernecks in program history.
Western Illinois (WIU) is coming off a two-match weekend at home. The Leathernecks lost 6-1 to Illinois State on Jan. 20. Freshman Anna-Evelina Trush was WIU's lone point winner, taking both her sets 6-0, 6-0.
The Leathernecks bounced back in their second match on Jan. 21 against IUPUI, winning 4-3. Their doubles duos of sophomore Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza paired with junior Paige Grice took their match 6-4, while the pair of senior Agatha Carbonell and Trush won, 6-4.
In singles, Trush won her second match of the weekend, winning 6-3, 7-6, while Grice took her match in two sets winning both sets 6-3.
