AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team put up a valiant effort against 10th-ranked Texas on Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
 
The Bearcats (10-9, 2-6 Big 12) pulled within 10 early in the third quarter before ultimately falling to the Longhorns, 67-50.
 
Cincinnati shot 33.3% from the floor (19-57 FG) and 20% from 3-point range (3-15 3FG). The Longhorns finished 37% from the field (20-54 FG) and made four three-pointers (.267).
 
Texas owned a plus-14 advantage on the glass (46-32) which resulted in 15 second-chance points. It marked the first time in Big 12 play the Bearcats did not hold the advantage in the category. The Longhorns also benefited from a 23-of-29 mark from the charity stripe (.793).
 
Texas native Reagan Jackson led the Bearcats with 10 points to go along with four rebounds. Sophomore A'riel Jackson also finished in double figures (10), with eight coming in the first half of play.
 
Sophomore Aïcha Dia provided crucial minutes off the bench, pulling down six rebounds – three offensive – in 23 minutes of action.
 
Texas got out to an 11-2 start at the first quarter media timeout. The Bearcats were battling early foul trouble as Malea Williams and Jillian Hayes each picked up two fouls within the first five minutes of the game.
 
Six straight points from Ta'Ziah Jenks ended a six-minute scoring drought for the Bearcats (13-8). A'riel Jackson's three-pointer at the buzzer cut UC's deficit to four after the first 10 minutes of play (16-12).
 
The Bearcats pulled within two on three occasions in the second quarter, but a scoring drought of three minutes allowed Texas to take a seven-point lead at the break (30-23).
 
Cincinnati scored the first two baskets of the second half (30-27) before Texas ended the quarter on an 11-0 run (50-34). Back-to-back buckets from Williams and Reagan Jackson cut the deficit to 10 with seven minutes remaining (53-43). The Bearcats would not get any closer for the remainder of the game, falling 67-50.
