CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team will host a doubleheader this Friday at the indoor courts at the Western Athletic Club, welcoming Duquesne at 1:00 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 6:30 p.m.
The Bearcats (3-0) will look to remain undefeated this spring. UC is coming off an exceptional outing last weekend, sweeping Western Illinois, 7-0.
The Bearcats were led by the freshmen duo of Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe, who started the day off fast, taking down Agatha Carbonell and Anna-Evelina Trush 6-0 in doubles.
Freshman Gabrielle Guenther cruised past Aina Cortina-Pou from Western Illinois, 6-0, 6-0, to set the pace in singles, while graduate student Victoire de Samucewicz made her first spring appearance by getting a 6-1, 6-0 win over Paige Grice.
THE OPPONENTS
This is the first time the Bearcats will face off against either of these opponents in program history.
Duquesne is 0-2 on the season after getting swept by West Virginia (7-0) and Western Michigan (4-0).
Eastern Illinois is 0-3 entering the match in the wake of being swept by Illinois (7-0) and Illinois State (7-0), but had a tight battle against IUPUI, ultimately falling just short, 4-3.
The Panthers took the doubles point against IUPUI as their pair of Luisa Renovales Salazar matched with Charleigh Fay earned a 6-4 victory, while Aleyla Wooten paired with Michelle Kostadinova for a 6-2 win.
Eastern Illinois' two singles wins came from Kostadinova 6-1, 6-1 and Renovales Salazar 6-2, 6-3.
