Cincinnati Drops Road Game to #24 West Virginia

The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to No. 24-ranked West Virginia, 68-53, on Wednesday night inside WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to No. 24-ranked West Virginia, 68-53, on Wednesday night inside WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
 
The Bearcats (8-5, 0-2 Big 12) were led by senior Jillian Hayes who turned in her fifth double-double of the season, 18th of her career. She finished with game highs in points (18) and rebounds (11). 
 
Cincinnati struggled with West Virginia's press, committing a season-high 24 turnovers in the loss. The Mountaineers, who lead the nation in steals per game, recorded 16 in the contest and scored 21 points off turnovers.
 
UC shot 34.5% from the field (19-55 FG) and 23.1% from behind the arc (3-13 3FG). The Bearcats won the rebounding battle (38-30) and pulled down 15 offensive boards.
 
WVU finished 41.1% from the floor (23-56 FG) and made seven three-pointers (.250).
 
Malea Williams converted a tough and-one with 8:35 on the clock in the first quarter. The Bearcats were then held scoreless until a layup by Ta'Ziah Jenks with 1:08 remaining (12-5). UC committed 10 turnovers in the opening quarter.
 
WVU hit back-to-back treys to start the second quarter (20-7). The Bearcats pulled within 10 after two straight baskets from Clarissa Craig and Jenks (28-18). WVU hit a three-pointer as time expired to take a 17-point lead into the break (36-19). Hayes led the Bearcats with eight points and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
 
Cincinnati used a 6-0 run to cut its deficit to 15 with under a minute remaining in the third quarter (51-36). The run was highlighted by Delaney Snyder's first career three-pointer.
 
The Bearcats would not get any closer than 15 for the remainder of the game, falling 68-53.
