LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to Kansas on Wednesday night inside Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.
The Bearcats (12-12, 4-9 Big 12) were handed a 75-60 loss to the hot-shooting Jayhawks. Kansas shot 50% from the floor in the first half and finished 47.3% overall. The Jayhawks owned a plus-24 advantage in points in the paint (36-12).
Senior Jillian Hayes turned in her eighth double-double of the season, 21st of her career. She posted 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, with eight and 10 coming in the fourth quarter.
The Bearcats received valuable contributions from freshmen duo Reagan Jackson and Abby Holtman, who combined for 20 points in the loss. Reagan Jackson notched her 10th double-digit scoring performance while Holtman recorded a new season high in points.
Cincinnati finished 28.1% from the floor (18-64 FG) and made nine three-pointers (.360) – its most threes in a Big 12 game this season.
The Bearcats owned the advantage on the glass for the 10th time in Big 12 play. They were plus-11 in rebounding (45-34) and pulled down 21 offensive boards.
Kansas opened the game 5-of-7 from the floor to take a 14-6 lead at the first quarter media timeout. The Bearcats went on a five-minute scoring drought until Reagan Jackson made a jumper with 1:35 on the clock (19-12). Hayes made a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut UC's deficit to six after one (22-16).
The Bearcats pulled within four after a Holtman turnaround jumper at 8:19 (24-20). Holtman then drained a three-pointer to make it a two-point game and force a Kansas timeout (29-27). The Jayhawks responded with a 7-0 run to lead by 10 at the half (40-30).
Reagan Jackson accounted for 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the first half.
Kansas scored the first eight points out of the break (48-30). Holtman's second three-pointer pulled Cincinnati within 14 with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter (52-38). The Bearcats would not get any closer for the remainder of the game, falling 75-60.
