Fourth Quarter Rally Comes Up Short in Loss to TCU

The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team's fourth quarter rally came up short as the Bearcats fell to TCU, 79-72, on Saturday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team's fourth quarter rally came up short as the Bearcats fell to TCU, 79-72, on Saturday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena.  
 
The Bearcats (12-13, 4-10 Big 12) could not overcome a hot-shooting Horned Frogs team. TCU made 14 three-pointers and shot 40.7% from the field overall.
 
Cincinnati honored Jillian Hayes, Malea Williams, Nia Clark, Ta'Ziah Jenks and Mya Jackson for Senior Day. Hayes nearly recorded a double-double with 14 points and a team-high nine boards. Williams finished with 11 points, five boards and three assists while Jenks pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
 
Sophomore A'riel Jackson led four Bearcats in double figures with 19 points, tying her career high. She went a career-best 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
 
Junior Braylyn Milton scored 15 points behind a career-high-tying five three-pointers (5-7 3FG). Cincinnati finished 36.2% from the floor (21-58 FG) and 44.4% from 3-point range (8-18 3FG).
 
The Bearcats owned the advantage on the glass for the 11th time in Big 12 play. They were plus-six in rebounding (41-35) and pulled down 13 offensive boards.
 
Cincinnati struggled offensively in the first quarter, shooting 27.8% from the floor (5-18 FG). The two teams exchanged three-pointers to give TCU a 13-7 lead. UC made back-to-back buckets to pull within two (13-11). A'riel Jackson then beat the buzzer as UC trailed by three after the first quarter (17-14).
 
TCU drained back-to-back three-pointers to extend its lead to seven (23-16). Clarissa Craig made a layup to end a four-minute scoring drought for the Bearcats (29-20). Cincinnati went on 6-0 run to force a TCU timeout at 2:41 (30-26). The Horned Frogs made eight three-pointers to lead by eight at the break, 39-31.
 
Hayes scored four of UC's six points out of the break (42-38). The Bearcats pulled within three (43-40) before TCU's Sydney Harris rattled off three straight threes (52-40).
 
Cincinnati started the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run, featuring a pair of threes by Milton and Williams (61-56). Milton hit her fifth trey with five minutes remaining (66-59). The Bearcats scored five straight to make it a five-point game with two minutes to go (69-64). The rally came up short as TCU held on to win, 79-72.
