This weekend will be Cincinnati's first-ever appearance at the Big 12 Championships, as the university joined the conference on July 1, 2023. The women's team claimed its first and only indoor conference title during the 2018 season as part of the AAC.
// REWRITING HISTORY
The Bearcats have rewritten the indoor record book this season, breaking two school records and recording 40 UC all-time top 10 marks.
Junior Abby Knouff took down former Bearcat Brooke Catherine's 2018 pole vault indoor school record mark of 4.26m / 13'11.75" by clearing a personal best bar height of 4.32m / 14'2" at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite.
Her mark currently ranks sixth in the Big 12 and 16th in the nation, which would qualify her for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Graduate student Tyler Wirth has been on a mission to prove he is one of the best distance runners in program history. A 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifier, he turned it up a notch during the indoor season, breaking the school mile record twice.
Last time out, Wirth demolished his previous record time by running a 3:57.20 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The Hawley, Pa., native has run a sub-four-minute mile twice this season and has achieved the feat three times in his career.
// KEEP AN EYE ON THESE BEARCATS
The record breakers, Wirth and Knouff, are not the only Bearcats to keep an eye on this weekend as nine Bearcats currently hold marks that rank inside the top 10 in the conference.
Freshman standouts Davenae Fagan and Juliette Laracuente-Huebner have been on a tear all season long. Fagan has showcased her speed by recording four UC all-time top-10 marks this season: 60m( 8th, 7.58), 200m (9th, 24.24), 300m (5th, 38.78), and 400m (9th, 55.23).
Laracuente-Huebner has proven to be a multi's star in the making as she currently holds the fourth-best pentathlon score in program history with 3879 points, as well as the fifth-best long jump (5.95m / 19' 6.25"), sixth-best triple jump (12.49m / 40' 11.75") and the seventh best 60m hurdles (8.49) time in program history.
Other notable names to watch out for will be junior Annika Kinley in the women's high graduate student Nyile Facey in the women's 60m hurdles, Hannah Jackson in the women's weight throw, and Justin Abrams in the men's heptathlon. All hold marks that rank inside the top 10 in the Big 12.
