CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball program will send five student-athletes to the 2024 USA Women's National Team Open Program.
Abby Walker, Julie Wittekind, Carly Glendinning, Sydney Nolan and Zeta Washington will represent the Bearcats at the tryout from Feb. 23-25 at the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
The WNT Open Program is used for consideration for selection to both the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. In 2024, members of the U.S. Women's National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, NORCECA Final Six, Pan American Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The three-day event includes skill-specific drills and activities as well as match play throughout the weekend.
Walker and Glendinning attended the event last year for the Bearcats while Wittekind, Washington and Nolan will be making their first appearance.
Walker played in every set for the Bearcats in 2023, totaling 15 matches with double-digit kills. She posted a season-high 17 kills twice, vs. Oklahoma and at West Virginia. She was first on the team in kills (260), second in hitting percentage (.277) and third in blocks (78).
Glendinning split her time between the right side and outside in 2023. She recorded double-digit kills in seven matches and notched three double-doubles. She posted her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs in UC's win over TCU.
Wittekind appeared in 90 sets across 24 matches as a member of UC's starting defensive trio. She averaged 1.76 digs per set and registered six matches with 10-or-more digs.
Washington, a Big 12 All-Rookie Team selection, finished a stellar freshman campaign with 13 double-digit kill performances, including 10 in league action She led the Bearcats in hitting percentage (.316) and was second on the team in kills (250) and blocks (88).
Nolan, a mid-year transfer from UNC, was selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2023. She led the team with a .391 hitting percentage, which ranked seventh in the league. She tallied 69 blocks, second-most on the team, and averaged a team-best 1.06 blocks per set.
