The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team used a big second quarter to power past Texas Tech, 68-56, on Saturday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team used a big second quarter to power past Texas Tech, 68-56, on Saturday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas.
 
Cincinnati picked up its second season sweep of a conference opponent to improve to 13-14 overall, 5-11 in the Big 12.  

The Bearcats shot 56.3% and outscored Texas Tech 22-10 in the second quarter. UC finished 37.7% from the floor overall and made seven three-pointers (7-18 3FG).

Four Bearcats finished in double figures, led by Texas native Reagan Jackson's 16 points and career-high four three-pointers. Senior Jillian Hayes poured in her ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
Sophomore A'riel Jackson recorded 14 points and seven rebounds while redshirt junior Ta'Ziah Jenks had 12 and six.
 
The Bearcats won the rebounding battle for the 13th time in Big 12 play, owning a plus-14 advantage on the glass (45-31) which resulted in 17 second-chance points.
 
A'riel Jackson and Jenks drained back-to-back treys with 6:35 in the first quarter (8-2). A'riel Jackson made another three-pointer to extend the Bearcats' lead to seven (11-4). Cincinnati went on a scoring drought for the final 3:23 minutes as Texas Tech pulled within two (13-11).
 
The Bearcats scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to force a TTU timeout at 7:52 (17-11). Reagan Jackson propelled the Bearcats on a big run to end the first half. She drained a trio of three-pointers over the final 2:07 minutes. Cincinnati outscored Texas Tech 22-10 to take a 14-point lead into the locker room (35-21).

Hayes accounted for seven of UC's nine straight points to start the third quarter (44-22). Hayes would go on to score 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to help UC lead by 19 with 10 minutes to play (56-37).
 
Texas Tech made a late run in the fourth quarter, hitting a trio of 3-pointers (65-53). Despite going just 50% from the free throw line in the quarter, Cincinnati got defensive stops down the stretch to hold on for the 68-56 victory. The fourth quarter featured 14 fouls and a combined 16 free throw attempts.
