CONWAY, S.C. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team concluded its weekend at No. 25 Coastal Carolina on Sunday and fell to the Chanticleers by a score of 25-2.
After winning a pair of games on Saturday, UC couldn't keep up offensively with a tough Coastal Carolina squad.
Tommy O'Connor drove in the lone Bearcat runs in the first inning on a two-run home run, his first of the season. He went 2-for-2 on the day and has now reached base in 21 straight games dating back to last season.
Will Murphy and Joey Hurth both made their Bearcat debuts on the mound. Murphy threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, keeping Coastal off the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings, while Hurth pitched a spotless seventh inning.
The Bearcats will return to the diamond this Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Xavier for a 2 PM contest against the Musketeers. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved up one day to avoid inclement weather.
