CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to No. 21-ranked Baylor, 74-53, in its regular season home finale on Tuesday night in Fifth Third Arena.
Cincinnati moved to 13-15 overall, 5-12 in the Big 12 with one league game remaining.
Senior Jillian Hayes registered her 22nd double-figure scoring performance with a team-high 13 points. She has led the team in scoring 16 times this season.
Sophomore A'riel Jackson recorded nine points, four rebounds and three assists while senior Malea Williams had eight points and eight boards.
Cincinnati finished 25.7% from the floor (18-70 FG) and made just three three-pointers (.158). The Bearcats, who lead the league in free throws made per game, went 14-of-20 from the stripe (.700).
Baylor shot 45% from the field (32-71 FG) and drained nine 3-pointers (.360). The Bears were plus-14 in points in the paint (42-28) and plus-25 in bench points (36-11).
Baylor jumped out to a 10-4 lead at the first quarter media timeout. Williams scored five straight points (14-9) before the Bears pushed their advantage back out to 10 at the end of the first quarter (21-11).
The Bearcats struggled in the second quarter, shooting just 20% from the field. Baylor outscored UC 18-10 in the period to lead by 18 at the break (39-21). Cincinnati would not pull any closer than 16 for the remainder of the game, falling 74-53.
