Gavin Breaks School Record, Bearcats Fall to #8/15 Cardinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky.– The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program closed out the weekend by recording nine new top-ten program times and 10 top-ten program dive scores.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.– The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program closed out the weekend by recording nine new top-ten program times and 10 top-ten program dive scores.
 
Both Cincinnati teams fell to the #8 Louisville women, 90-204, and the #15 men, 88-205 inside Ralph Wright Natatorium on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Grace Gavin had a great performance in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing second with a new personal best time of 54.23 and breaking the school record.
 
The Bearcats took home third place in the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay.
 
Jon Osa, Hunter Gubeno, Brogan Robinson and Drew Hawthorne recorded the nine-fastest time in program history with a time of 1:28.55.
 
The women's team of Jessica Davis, Lily Jones, Joleigh Crye and Gavin notched a time of 1:40.09, which is the fourth fastest time in program history.
 
Gubeno grabbed a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (48.42) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:42.79).
 
Sophomore Kaylee Nagel recorded the ninth-fastest time in program history in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.51.
 
Junior diver Will Claus took home a win in the 1m dive with a score of 351.68.
 
He finished second in the 3m dive with a score of 337.50, placing him third overall in program history.
 
Wrapping up the diving portion, sophomore Lauren Melia earned second-place with a score of 289.95 in the 3m, giving her the seventh spot in program history.
 
The team of Gavin, Crye, Davis and Sonja Aarsvold swam the third-fastest 400-yard medley relay time in program history with a time of 3:39.25.

For the first time in program history, the Bearcats will head to Morgantown, W.Va. to compete in the Big 12 Conference Championship from Feb. 27-Mar. 2.
