CINCINNATI – Junior Josh Kross of the University of Cincinnati baseball team has been named Co-Newcomer of the Week by the Big 12 Conference, the league office announced Monday.
 
Kross is UC's first weekly award winner since joining the Big 12 and he shares the award with senior outfielder Lenny Ashby from Kansas
 
The Brunswick, Ohio native was outstanding last week, hitting .455 and slugging .909 in six games while tallying three home runs and 11 RBI. He led Cincinnati in RBI and hits (11) and was tied for the team lead in home runs and runs scored (nine) last week. He also reached base at least twice in five of six contests.
 
Kross opened the week by hitting his first home run as a Bearcat last Tuesday at Xavier and homered again in the next game vs. Oakland on Thursday. He saved his best performance for last, going 3-for-4 with a home run and career-high six RBI on Sunday vs. Northern Illinois.
 
Kross has started all 12 games this season, making five starts at first base, four at designated hitter, and three at catcher.
