CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team hosts Akron on Wednesday. First pitch at UC Baseball Stadium is set for 4 PM and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Wednesday's game will be the first "Minute to Win It Wednesday" of the year, giving fans the opportunity to compete for prizes in games around the concourse. Featured concessions items for Wednesday include special deals for pretzels ($3) and popcorn ($1) as well as free Oreos at the UC Athletics Marketing table.

UC leads the all-time series against Akron, 10-6. The last time these two teams met was in 2014 when the Bearcats hosted the Zips for a three-game series, winning two out of the three games.

Wednesday's game will be Cincinnati's final tune-up before Big 12 play begins this weekend. UC heads to Kansas State for a three-game series beginning this Friday, March 8.

// LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati hosted Northern Illinois for a four-game series this past weekend and took three out of four games from the Huskies. UC hit .308 over the weekend and outscored NIU, 37-17.

Game one was a convincing 13-5 victory for the Bearcats, who scored in each inning from the third frame on to overwhelm the Huskies. Christian Mitchelle went 3-for-4 in that game, one of four players with multi-hit efforts.

Cincinnati won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 6-5, in peculiar fashion after Josh Hegemann was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the game-winning run. Northern Illinois won the second game of the twin bill, 6-4.

UC capped the weekend with a dominant 14-1 run-rule victory in the finale on Sunday. Its season-high run total was bolstered by five-run outputs in the second and third innings to build a big early lead. Josh Kross went 3-for-4 with a home run and a career-high six RBI to highlight the win.

// JOSH KROSS NAMED BIG 12 CO-NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Cincinnati has its first weekly award winner as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Josh Kross was named Co-Newcomer of the Week on Monday thanks to his outstanding performances against Xavier, Oakland, and Northern Illinois.

Kross hit .455 across six games last week and either led UC or tied for the team lead in home runs (three), RBI (11), runs scored (nine) and hits (10). He saved his best performance for last, with his six-RBI game against NIU providing an emphatic end to a stellar week.

// QUARTET OF BEARCATS RIDING LENGTHY ON-BASE STREAKS
Tommy O'Connor, Kerrington Cross, Dalton Pearson, and Lauden Brooks have all reached base in every game they've played in this season, and all four Bearcats also have impressive on-base streaks dating back to last year.

O'Connor's stretch is the longest of the bunch, as he has reached base in 27 consecutive games dating back to 2023. Cross has reached base in 22 straight games, while Pearson and Brooks are riding 20 and 18-game streaks, respectively, dating back to last season.

Both Cross (.558) and O'Connor (.536) own on-base percentages higher than .500, and Cross ranks seventh in the Big 12 in that category.
