CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team faced Kansas at home on Friday night, falling to the Jayhawks by a score of 14-4.

It was the first-ever Big 12 home game for the Bearcats, who opened conference play last weekend at Kansas State.

The Jayhawks opened the scoring with two runs in the second and plated four more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. UC wasn't able to keep pace offensively and allowed KU to put up crooked numbers in the sixth and ninth innings as well.

Three Bearcats had multi-hit efforts on Friday: Josh Kross, Hunter Jessee, and Landyn Vidourek. Vidourek went 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of doubles and a walk, and drove in two runs as well. Jessee had an extra-base hit too, an RBI double, and Luke Sefcik scored twice. Tommy O'Connor kept his on-base streak alive with a fifth-inning walk and has now reached base safely in 34 straight games dating back to last season.

Six different pitchers saw time on the mound for Cincinnati. Michael Conte had the best outing of the bunch, striking out two in two scoreless innings.

Game two is set for 2 PM on Saturday.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
A two-run single in the top of the second gave Kansas a 2-0 lead, and it extended its advantage in the top of the fourth. KU scored four runs that inning to go up 6-0.

Cincinnati got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Hunter Jessee. Luke Sefcik reached on a fielder's choice and three pitches later scored on Jessee's two-bagger.

Kansas continued to pile it on, scoring a run in the fifth and five in the sixth. UC plated three in the bottom half of the sixth, with two coming home on Landyn Vidourek's one-out double, but still trailed 12-4.

The Jayhawks scored twice in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring and bring about the 14-4 final score.
