CINCINNATI – Camryn Callaghan's sixth hat trick in her team's first seven games powered the Cincinnati lacrosse team to a 16-4 win over Kent State on a balmy Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats have won five-straight contests, their longest streak since eight in 2019. UC has allowed only 16 goals over that stretch, which began with the program's first-ever shutout Feb. 18 at Robert Morris.
The sophomore Callaghan, who needed only seven shots for her six goals, now has 89 for her career to move into eighth in UC's career record books.
Kent State had 10 turnovers in the first quarter, and Cincinnati led 5-1 at the first break after scoring nine goals in the opening quarter on Thursday against Youngstown State. The Golden Flashes finished with 25, eight more than their previous season-high. UC's most on defense this year was 26 against Butler.
Kylie Gioia scooped up a loose ball and rifled a goal from the left side with one second left to give Cincinnati a 9-2 lead at the half.
Victoria Macres tallied five saves before Hailey Darko relieved her late in the third quarter, up 15-2. Lauren Ottensmeyer's three goals and Ava Goeller's two rounded out the leading offensive performers. Ottensmeyer and Julie Rose each had two assists as well.
Cincinnati will conclude its three-game homestand Wednesday against Louisville at 12 p.m. Admission is free.
