CINCINNATI – Sophomore Camryn Callaghan surpassed 100 career goals as the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team defeated East Carolina, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon inside Nippert Stadium
The Bearcats improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the AAC with their second conference win of the year.
Before Saturday's game, Callaghan needed one goal to reach 100. She hit the milestone within the first minute of play. She became the first player to achieve 100 goals in under two years as a Bearcat. She finished with six goals, six points, five draw controls and 10 shots.
Senior Lauren Ottensmeyer finished with three goals, giving her 48 this season. She has recorded a hat trick in 11 straight games.
Cincinnati held East Carolina to two goals in the first half. Goals from Ottensmeyer and Lexie Wolfe extended UC's lead to five before ECU responded with 24 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Pirates opened up the second half with a 3-0 run that came to a halt thanks to three straight goals from Callaghan.
ECU got within one towards the end of the third quarter before Ottensmeyer found the back of the net for a clutch last-second goal.
The Bearcats bounced back with two late goals from Callaghan to seal the victory. Cincinnati's defense held strong claiming an 18-8 draw control advantage, Dani Mlkvy notching eight.
Despite East Carolina's strong offensive efforts, Cincinnati remained in front the whole duration of the game.
