STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team opened its weekend series at No. 21 Oklahoma State on Friday night and lost, 8-4, in extra innings.

The Bearcats (20-14, 7-6 Big 12) held a 4-1 lead after seven innings, but the Cowboys (23-11, 8-5 Big 12) tied the game with a three-run bottom of the eighth. Neither team could break the tie in the ninth, and one inning later OSU won the game with a walk-off grand slam.

The loss spoiled a sterling outing for Seth Logue, who tied a career-high with nine strikeouts in six innings out of the bullpen. He entered the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second and recorded 1-2-3 innings in the third, fourth, and fifth. The Cowboys put runners on base in the sixth and seventh, but each time Logue left them stranded and emphatically ended the frame with a strikeout.

At the plate, Hunter Jessee drove in two runs while Alec Jones and Tommy O'Connor each tallied one RBI apiece. Josh Kross and Christian Mitchelle both had two-hit games.

Game two vs. the Cowboys is set for Saturday night at 7 PM ET.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
Oklahoma State scored first on a sac fly in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with no outs. Seth Logue, who entered the game in the middle of the inning, sent down the next hitters to limit the damage to just one run.

Logue posted 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth, and Alec Jones' RBI double in the top of the fifth tied the game at 1-1. He sent the Cowboys down in order in the fifth inning as well.

OSU put two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, but an inning-ending strikeout for Logue squashed the threat. His offense rewarded him for his efforts by plating three runs in the top of the seventh to give UC a 4-1 lead. Hunter Jessee gave Cincinnati its first lead of the night with a two-run double to center field, and later in the inning Tommy O'Connor hustled out a ground ball hit into the shift to reach on a single and allow Christian Mitchelle to score.

Logue again shut down the Cowboys in the bottom of the seventh, but the home squad tied the game in the eighth. Two RBI singles and a sac fly put the score at 4-4. Neither team scored in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. Oklahoma State loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 10th and Lane Forsythe sent a 2-2 pitch over the wall in center field to end the game.
