CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team welcomes Houston for a three-game Big 12 series this weekend.
First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 5 PM. Game two on Saturday will begin at 2 PM and the finale on Sunday will start at noon. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
UC's sixth Big 12 series of the year will come against a familiar foe, as the Bearcats and Cougars were both members of the American Athletic Conference from 2013-23 and faced off on the diamond every season except for the shortened 2020 campaign. Since the start of the 2021 season, Cincinnati sports a 6-4 record vs. Houston. The last time these two teams met at UC Baseball Stadium was April 8-10, 2022, and the Bearcats took two out of the three games.
Cincinnati (21-17, 7-8 Big 12) is tied with Kansas State (22-14, 7-8) and Kansas (19-14, 7-8) in the Big 12 standings and four games behind West Virginia (23-13, 11-4) and Oklahoma (21-14, 11-4) for first place. Entering the seventh weekend of conference play, Cincinnati is one of seven teams within four games of WVU and OU in the Big 12 standings.
Following this weekend's series vs. Houston, Cincinnati will head to Orlando to face UCF next weekend, April 26-28, for a three-game conference series.
// WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
Friday will be Squid Games Night and Greek Night at the ballpark, and Saturday will be Happy Gilmore/Golf Day. Both games will feature themed games on the concourse, and prior to Saturday's game there will be a tailgate for fans near the Oscar Robertson statue outside of Fifth Third Arena. Sunday will be Field of Dreams Day, and a limited number of Cincinnati Baseball posters will be given out to fans.
// LAST TIME OUT
UC hosted a couple midweek games this week, defeating Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday before falling to Xavier on Wednesday.
Tuesday's run-rule win vs. the Colonels was highlighted by performances by Josh Kross and Tommy O'Connor, who both hit a home run and tallied three RBI apiece. Landyn Vidourek reached base four times and drove in a couple runs, and Josh Hegemann went 3-for-5. The Bearcats led the entire game and a base hit by Kerrington Cross brought in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 12-2, enacting the run rule.
Cincinnati led early against Xavier as well, but saw that lead slip away in the later innings in a 6-4 loss. Hunter Jessee went 2-for-5 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the first inning.
