// HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston struck first with four runs in the second inning. The first two runs of the inning came home on a grounder that eked through the right side of the infield, and runs came in on an error and a two-out base hit as well to make it 4-0.

Cincinnati got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Max Palmieri ripped a two-out single into center field that scored Christian Mitchelle to get UC on the board.

The Bearcats pulled within a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3. Josh Hegemann drew a bases-loaded walk, then Josh Kross brought in a run on a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to one. One inning later, Lauden Brooks singled into right field and drove in the tying run to put the score at 4-4.

In the top of the eighth, Carson Marsh stranded a Cougar runner on third with an emphatic two-out punchout to keep the game tied. Kerrington Cross then led off the bottom of the eighth with a base hit and advanced to third on Kross' single. With runners at the corners, Landyn Vidourek shot a base hit into the gap in right-center field that score Cross easily and gave UC its first lead of the day.

Marsh sent down the first two hitters he faced in the top of the ninth on strikeouts and induced a harmless groundout to end the game and seal the win.
