// LAST TIME OUT
Across two meets last weekend, Bearcats broke two school records and recorded 14 program all-time top 10 marks.
Graduate Student Tyler Wirth broke his own school record mark in the 1,500m with a time of 3:39.58 at the Wake Forest Invitational. Wirth's new record time currently ranks 17th in the NCAA and 11th in the East Region.
He bested his previous school record (3:41.24), which he set last year, by more than two seconds and finished fifth overall in the men's 1,500m invite section.
Graduate student Maddie Walker turned in the other record-breaking performance of the weekend as she took down the program's 5,000m record with a time of 16:18.61. She broke former Bearcat Ellie Leather's previous school record of 16:23.43 (2022) by more than five seconds.
Freshman Juliette Laracuente-Huebner had an eventful weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas. She demolished her previous long jump personal best by leaping 6.25m / 20' 6.25", the third-best mark in program history. She followed that performance by leaping 12.70m / 41' 8" in the women's triple jump competition, which was the fifth-best mark in school history.
She currently ranks 20th in the long jump and 21st in the triple jump in the NCAA East Region, which would qualify her for the NCAA East First Rounds.
// BEARCATS IN THE RANKINGS
With the NCAA East First Rounds approaching quickly, 11 Bearcats, six women and five men currently hold qualifying marks. Juliette Laracuente-Huebner currently holds four marks (LJ, TJ, HJ, Heptathlon) that would qualify her for the NCAA competition, while Tyler Wirth leads the UC men with two (1,500m / 5,000m). The top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the first-round competitions for each individual event.
The Bearcats also have a pair of multis athletes – Dominique Hall (decathlon) and Juliette Laracuente-Huebner (heptathlon) – with marks that would currently punch their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Combined events do not attend the first round. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the Championships.
