TicketsCINCINNATI – Two-time all-conference defensive tackle Jowon Briggs leads University of Cincinnati football hopefuls into this weekend's NFL Draft.
The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place from April 25 to April 27. NFL Network, ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes will provide coverage of the draft with Round 1 beginning on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. ET and the Rounds 4 through 7 wrapping up on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
The Bearcats will look to extend their NFL Draft streak to nine consecutive years with a selection. Cincinnati has had a player selected every year since 2016 and has had 16 players drafted since 2021.
Highlighting the group of Bearcat NFL draft prospects is Briggs. A 6-2, 297-pound Cincinnati native who starred at Walnut Hills High School, he started his career at Virginia, where he was a Freshman All-American in 2019. He transferred to Cincinnati in 2021 and was a valuable member of the Bearcats' defensive line during the team's run to an undefeated regular season and appearance in the College Football Playoff.
He started the final 25 games of his career at defensive tackle, collecting All-AAC First Team accolades in 2022 before nabbing All-Big 12 honorable mention honors in 2023.
The 22-year-old married father of three put up 38 bench press reps at the Big 12 Pro Day – the most of any player in this year's draft class.
Briggs could become the 13th Bearcat selected from the historic 2021 College Football Playoff Team. If drafted, he would also become the 17th Bearcat defensive lineman drafted since 1960 and the 12th since 2000.
Briggs would join Curtis Brooks (Colts, sixth round, 2022) and Cortez Broughton (Chargers, seventh round, 2019) as recent defensive tackles selected in the NFL Draft.
Cincinnati sent eight of its most talented draft prospects to the 2024 Big 12 Pro Day earlier this month. The players were able to work out in front of all 32 NFL teams and showcase their skills in hopes of increasing their draft stock.
