ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team scored eight runs over the final three innings to come back and defeat UCF, 9-4, in the first game of their weekend series on Friday night.

UC (24-18, 10-9 Big 12) trailed, 4-1, heading into the seventh inning before tying the game with a three-run frame. An inning later, the Bearcats blew it open with five runs in the eighth to make it 9-4. Carson Marsh, who had shut down the Knights (25-14, 8-11 Big 12) the previous two innings, did it again in the ninth to seal the win.

It was the third come-from-behind win for the Bearcats in their last four contests after coming back twice last weekend vs. Houston.

Marsh struck out five in three scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing just one baserunner. Seth Logue made the start and struck out five in five innings, and Griffin Hugus pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

At the plate, Kerrington Cross provided the big blow with a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth that turned UC's two-run lead into a five-run advantage. Luke Sefcik had a great night at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a sac fly and two RBI. Landyn Vidourek drove in two runs with a seventh-inning double as well.

Game two between the Bearcats and Knights will take place on Saturday at 6 PM.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
The first two UC hitters of the night drew walks, and Kerrington Cross would eventually come around to score on an RBI groundout to give his team an early 1-0 lead.

Seth Logue kept the Knights hitless through the first three innings and kept them off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth. A two-out base hit brought in the tying run and made it 1-1, though Landyn Vidourek's throw from right field nearly nabbed the runner at home. The tie didn't last long, as the next UCF hitter smacked a three-run home run to left field to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

Cincinnati wasn't able to get much going offensively after the first inning, but that stretch ended with a three-run seventh that tied the score at 4-4. Luke Sefcik's sac fly brought in the first run of the inning, then Vidourek scorched a double into center field that tied the game.

The biggest inning of the night for either squad was the top of the seventh. UC sent nine hitters to the plate and scored five runs to go up, 9-4. After loading the bases, Lauden Brooks drew a walk to bring home the go-ahead run. Sefcik followed that up with a base hit into left field that made it 6-4, and Cross provided the big blow with a bases-clearing double to increase the lead to five. The Bearcats did a terrific job working the count to their advantage in the eighth inning as Brooks, Sefcik, and Cross all had full counts before bringing in runs.

Carson Marsh, who struck out the side in the seventh and had a 1-2-3 in the eighth, ended the game with a strikeout to seal the win.
